Fortnite has a currency of gold bars that you can collect from eliminating players, completing NPC challenges, opening chests and safes.

You can spend gold bars at bounty boards and with NPCs. You can buy weapons upgrades, exotic weapons, hire them to back you up or more challenges you can complete for more gold bars.

You can only hold 5,000 gold bars so get spending!
